Course Overview

Tuesday, October 14 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In this session, we will pick up where Part I ended. This will be a deeper dive into the intricacies of grant writing and explore the crucial steps to take after submission. By the end of this session, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to write successful grants and navigate the next steps with confidence.

Meet Your Expert Speaker

Director of Grants and Recognitions, NISD Sharon Sanchez

Sharon Sanchez has over 25 years of extensive grant experience. She is the Director of the Grants and Recognitions Department for Northside Independent School District. Prior to that, she worked at the San Antonio Housing Authority as a grant manager. She has served more than 21 years in the district, 18 as Director where she oversees preparation of competitive and federal entitlement grants, conducts compliance monitoring and program reporting. She has served as a grant reviewer for federal and city grants. Sharon earned an undergraduate and graduate degree from UTSA.

Course Objectives

  • Participants will learn the different parts of a grant and have an opportunity to complete different grant components. 


  • Participants will learn best practices that can be implemented to improve their chance of being awarded after a grant is submitted. 


  • Participants will learn strategies to use if their grant is not awarded.

  • The San Antonio Area Foundation has a No Refund policy.

    If a workshop and/or class has been unexpectedly cancelled and/or postponed by the Area Foundation, a refund or credit towards another workshop and/or class will be issued. If a registrant is unable to attend a workshop and/or class, a substitute may be sent or a credit may be issued. No credits will be given for cancellations received less than 48 hours before a workshop.
