Marvin Hurst

Marvin Hurst has Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications at Grambling State University, focusing on broadcasting, newspaper, and public relations. He has reported in Louisiana, served as Press Director of Office of Youth Services under Louisiana's Gov. Blanco, and is currently a morning anchor and multimedia journalist for KENS 5 in San Antonio, Texas. He has garnered several nominations and awards from the Associated Press, Texas Associated Press, and the Lone Star Emmys. He helped create the award-winning KENS 5 Workplace Mentoring program. Marvin is a member of the of the San Antonio Association of Black Journalists, where he served five terms as president, and served on the executive board for the 100 Black Men of San Antonio.

The Communication Assignment: Working with Media (Virtual)

November 14th (Tuesday) 9 am. to noon

Course Description...   The Communication Assignment (TCA) is a learning experience for non-profits to understand relatable communication techniques from the practices of media experts, including tips on storytelling and pitching stories, how to effectively post social media, using sales to reach philanthropic audiences, and what your media kit should look like.

Nonprofit Management Program participants and those responsible for communications within an organization or those who manage communications managers (to understand the importance of communications via social media and the process)

Refund/Credit Policy

  • The San Antonio Area Foundation has a no refund policy.

    If a workshop and/or class has been unexpectedly cancelled and/or postponed by the Area Foundation, a refund or credit towards another workshop and/or class will be issued. If a registrant is unable to attend a workshop and/or class, a substitute may be sent or a credit may be issued. No credits will be given for cancellations received less than 48 hours before a workshop.
